Set the goal
What is the trip for? Teamwork, physical activity, a topic linked to a lesson, or an end-of-term reward. Once the goal is clear, choosing the venue and programme becomes easier.
Get permissions early
Collect school approval and written parental consent well before the date. In the note to parents, state the date, time, venue, transport and return time clearly.
Plan transport
Coach or public transport? Venues close to public transport make life easier with large classes. Agree the meeting point and headcount moments in advance.
Split the class into groups
Rather than putting 25–30 pupils into one activity at once, splitting the class into small groups and rotating cuts waiting time. Give each group a supervisor.
Movement and strategy together
Activities that work both body and mind keep attention from drifting. Team games naturally support communication and cooperation.
After the trip
Back in class, take a few minutes to reflect: what did we learn, what did we do well as a team? It turns a ‘day out’ into a learning experience.
